Domestic flights from May 25: Routes divided into seven sections for minimum and maximum fares

The Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Thursday announced that the government has divided routes to control the fare of passenger flights .  The domestic flight services which were shut for the last two months are set to resume from May 25, and only passengers with confirmed web check-in can enter the airport.  Addressing the media, Puri said that "We have divided routes in seven sections for fare control; the first section is where flight duration is less than 40 minutes, then more than 40 but upto 60 minutes, 60 to 90 minutes, 90 to 120 minutes, 120 to 150 minutes, 150 to 180 minutes and 180 to 210."  On the Delhi-Mumbai route, the lower limit will be Rs 3500 and the upper limit for flight fare would be Rs 10,000.  This is operative for 3 months - till one minute to midnight on 24th August.  "Our objective is to make air travel affordable," said Puri.  Aviation Secretary said that 40 per cent seats in flights would have to be sold at mid-point of lower and upper airfare limit set for the route.

The flights are set to take-off in a calibrated manner from Monday (May 25).  Explaining the fare, the secretary said, "Midpoint of Rs 3500 and Rs 10,000 is Rs 6700. Therefore, 40 per cent of the seats have to be sold at a price of Rs 6700. This is how we're ensuring that fares don't go out of control."  Speaking about social distancing, the Aviation Minister said that social distancing requirement is not met even if middle seats in flights are kept vacant, so they will fill up middle seats.  He also added that passengers who don't have Aarogya Setu app can give self-declaration form.  In the Standard Operation Procedure (SOP), the Airports Authority of  India has advised passengers to reach the airport 2 hours prior to departure.  It has also asked passengers to install the Aarogya Setu mobile app without which they won't be allowed entry into the terminal building.
