TRIPURA NEWS::Coronavirus cases in Tripura rise to 189, 16 new cases recorded

the numbers in the Northeast Indian states continuing to show a sharp spike, Tripura has again reported 16 fresh cases of the Covid-19. All the new cases have been detected in persons who have returned to Tripura from coronavirus hotspot Maharashtra.

The state's Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, taking to Twitter moments earlier, wrote, "996 samples have been tested today in Tripura for COVID-19. Among them 16 persons found Covid-19 positive. All of them have returned from Maharashtra. They have been admitted to hospital." In the same tweet, the Chief Minister requested all travellers to follow the quarantine instructions and co-operate with the Government.

In a significant development that took place earlier today, Sikkim reported its first-ever positive case in the afternoon. The Sentinel Digital has received reports that the first positive patient from the state is a 25-year-old man who had returned to the state from New Delhi, recently.

Confirming this, Dr Pemba Tshering Bhutia, the Director General cum Secretary of the Health Department, said that the afflicted man has now been admitted to the state's dedicated COVID-19 hospital -- STNM. According to reports, the youth is a UPSC aspirant who had gone to Delhi for coaching purposes.

Meanwhile, Assam has also reported a string of cases in the last 24 hours and the tally has now risen to 329, with 4 having died due to complications.
